Crime Statistics and Community Safety
A couple things that I wanna talk about.
The task force has, um, made more arrests for
murders
than actual murders that have occurred.
Um, the task force is arresting someone wanted on a murder
charge
every two and a half days. So during a work week,
two guys are being arrested on a murder charge.
Overall crime is at a 25-year low, down 34% from last
year. Um, you, you talk about the statistics and,
and sometimes they go
in one ear and out the oth- out the other, but it makes a difference in our
community when you talk about murders being down 33%, sexual assaults
down 25%, motor vehicle thefts are down 54%,
robberies are down 40%, aggravated assaults down 24%.
So those are all numbers that, that are just percentages, but what it actually
means on a day-to-day basis are the citizens of, of, of,
of this county,
the citizens of Tennessee are, um, in a safer
environment, in a safer street, in a safer restaurant, in a safer
building than they were two years ago.
And that's true across the country.
We're here to talk about Memphis, but the, the,
the historic drop in crime that we've seen in this city is,
is something that we've
seen all across the country, and it's, it's in, in...
it's completely the result of the work of the men and women
who, um, who wear the badge and who are working hard
to keep our community, um, our communities safe.
