Government Emergency Preparedness Campaign
This is perhaps the most important part of this entire story,
because the government isn't only preparing ministers, it isn't
only preparing the military, it isn't only preparing civil, civil
servants. It is increasingly encouraging ordinary
British households to prepare as well.
A national public awareness campaign is being developed to
encourage people to take simple steps to
prepare for emergencies. The government already operates its
prepare service. When you actually read the advice, it's
remarkably practical. Families are encouraged to think about what they
would
need if normal services were disrupted for several
days.
Things like essential medication, bottled
water, non-perishable food,
torches, batteries, a battery or wind-up
radio, power banks, first aid supplies,
hygiene products, baby supplies, pet food,
important telephone numbers written down somewhere
other than your mobile phone,
and a household emergency plan. Government even gives guidance on
emergency requirements, and importantly,
it tells people, "Don't buy everything at once."
