Exploring Lost Treasure in the Grand Canyon
Mokey Mike here, researching lost treasure stories.
There was a lot of engagement on my last post about the Egyptian treasure cave
in the Grand Canyon.
One of the things I'm trying to find is evidence of old railroad tracks
or wagon trails to the site.
So I'm trying to pinpoint where the cave might be,
but that is harder than expected when the
Grand Canyon has almost 600 miles
of cliffs lining the Colorado River.
Jerry Wills in his
interview mentions that this cave is just upstream
from an ancient natural dam that had been created by a lava flow,
but has since eroded away.
Two volcanoes went off and filled in the Grand Canyon,
creating a natural dam. This in turn caused a big lake,
kind of like Lake Powell is now,
and these people who were in there,
we don't know when they went there.
We don't know what that story is.
All we know is that there were Asians coming across, going up the Colorado River,
getting to this dam, climbing up, getting into boats, and going across to
the entrance of this underground city.
At a lecture I was recording with Jeff Axel from the National Park Service,
said that the Grand Canyon actually had many of these natural dam lava flows.
There was a researcher named Hamlin back in the 90s.
One of the things, he was looking at lava material over here.
It would have made a lava dam almost a half mile high.
He postulated that that would have, if it was a good dam, backed a lake
all the way to Moab.
There was some kind of lake, but how big it was is unknown.
But this is the other site of many dams.
There were a total of at least 17 during the last million years.
So I'm still looking and still searching for clues. Stay tuned.
