Recent Global Volcanic Eruptions Update
Volcanoes across several continents have erupted,
blasted ash into the atmosphere,
and produced dangerous pyroclastic activity within the
space of just a few days.
In Mexico, Popocatepetl recorded 48 exhalations in 24 hours,
releasing volcanic gases and ash.
Ashfall was reported across several communities in Morelos,
as the volcano remained at yellow alert phase 2.
In Colombia, Puracay remains at orange alert after repeated ash emissions,
shallow volcanic tremor, and elevated sulfur dioxide output.
Six ash emissions were recorded within a single 24-hour period.
In Sicily, Mount Etna intensified again on August 8.
A new eruptive vent opened at around 2,550 meters
inside the Vallée del Beauvais,
filled by pyroclastic flows and continued explosive activity.
Japan's Sakurajima also produced an explosive eruption at 814 UTC,
sending a dense ash cloud more than three kilometers above sea level.
In Guatemala, Fuego has been producing explosions,
ash columns, lava, and pyroclastic flows,
following an intense eruptive phase that forced evacuations from nearby communities.
Indonesia's Mount Ibu has also continued erupting repeatedly this week.
Multiple major volcanic systems are active across the planet within
the same narrow window.
We will keep watch and report if and when needed.
