Analysis of Russian Drone Technology in Ukraine
Russia's Geran long range drones have evolved from piston engine models
to jet powered variants, the Geran four and the Geran five,
pushing speeds
over three hundred kilometers an hour. Jesus.
Ukraine's air defenses, which are heavily reliant on mobile firing
groups
and cheap interceptor drones, was built for slower targets.
The speed upgrade slashes detection and reaction time,
rendering these low cost
defenses largely ineffective. They force Ukraine to use expensive
full fledged surface to air missiles, which is like what?
Two million dollars a pop. And they're running low already because of
the war in
Iran.
Mixing-- and then what Russia's doing is mixing low cost piston drones, the, the
slower drones I assume that is, with the fast jet powered variants,
Geran four and Geran five. And they use decoys as well to
over-overwhelm the radar
systems on the Ukrainian side and being able to strike a lot
more targets consistently.
After Russia's success, Iran is seeking modernized Russian variants of
the drone.
So Iran's looking at having similar drones,
which would cause havoc in the Middle
East for the Americans in Gulf countries, 'cause they're struggling with the
piston ones and piston engine models, let alone
a jet powered model that the Ukrainians are struggling with.
So I can't even imagine what that would do to the Persian Gulf.
And even the US and China are also adopting the Russian doctrine of
rapid mass production, continuous battlefield feedback, and swift
iteration. What can you tell us about those drones
and, and how much of a
difference are they making?
It's a huge difference. I mean,
you look at these Geran four and five drones.
And by the way, this week there was Ukrainian air defense
operators that were quoted in the media saying that they tracked some of these
Geran fives going up to eight hundred kilometers per hour.
It's insane. You know, Ukraine has these older
mobile air defense networks that they could occasionally
intercept Russian drones with, but these are just
unstoppable. You know, these new drones are too fast.
Uh, the videos that we're seeing of them, they're highly mobile and agile in the
air. They can avoid air defenses very well.
