Why do you love your job?

Love my job?

Since I was your age, I’ve dreamed of being a football player.

Why? Because it is

the sweetest dream in the world.

Why? Because I saw what football does to people.

I saw people who were truly happy and others truly crying.

I saw people shocked and worried and others making up because of football.

It drove me crazy. I saw people who never felt anything start to feel everything.

It obsessed me. I could not see anything else but it.

I went down to play wearing the T-shirt of the player I love.

And I imagined I was him, maybe even tougher than him.

I grew up, and the dream grew. I said, can it be that people

would wear a T-shirt with my name on it?

And chant my name?

That is such a beautiful dream.

Yeah, but the thing is

it is not easy.

I had to wake up before everyone to train,

and I kept going, and sleep last so I could finish my studying,

and I kept going, and I found myself far from the people I love,

and I kept going, and get injured and learn patience while I watched my teammates

The ones who want to take my place keep getting better.

And I kept going. And when I thought I’d made it, they benched me

on the sidelines. And I kept going. And a lot of people told me

I was not good enough and I would not make it.

And still I kept going. But this is a really tough dream,

you know. That is what makes it special. Because when a dream like this comes true, it can make a whole country’s dream
