Terrorism Threats in Central Asia
We,
mm, understand that it will take a long
time to overcome the set legacy left by the
United States and NATO countries after two decades of
occupation of Afghanistan.
We take into account the fact that in the Afghan
regions bordering Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan,
according to available data, there are,
there remains a serious presence of terrorists and extremist groups,
their training camps, and their strongholds.
Members of these groups are attempting to enter the territory
of Central Asian states,
including under the guise of tourists or refugees.
The main danger in our assessment
and our special services comes from the militants of the
Wilayat Khorasan group. It's a regional unit of the
international terrorist organization, Islamic State,
and it openly seeks to undermine the ability of the government in
Kabul to maintain stability in the country.
At the same time, the radicals want to use Afghanistan as
a kind of a springboard for transferring terrorist
activities to Central Asia and the Russian Federation.
