Exercises to Improve Thoracic Spine Health
3 exercises that undo years of thoracic spine damage and
finally take the pressure off your lower back for good.
If you sit at a desk all day,
your upper back rounds forward, your chest caves in,
and your thoracic spine slowly turns to concrete.
That rounded posture shortens the lats and locks the shoulders into internal rotation,
so when you try to reach overhead, your upper back cannot extend.
And for many people, the body finds a workaround.
It jams the lower back into extension, arching hard just to get range your thoracic spine
That compensation can load the lumbar discs and spinal erectors
in ways they were never designed for.
And over time, that tends to show up as chronic lower back tightness,
so here is how to reverse it.
1. Half Kneeling Thoracic Rotation
Drop into a half kneel, place one hand behind your head,
rotate your elbow toward the ceiling as far as you can.
10 reps each side, slow and controlled.
2. Dumbbell Pullover Lie
back, lower the weight overhead with straight arms,
pull it back up, those ribs locked down.
3 sets of 8.
3. Standing Thoracic Rotation with Dowel
Hold a dowel across your shoulders, feet planted,
and rotate as far as each direction allows.
15 each side.
Open up that upper back,
and your lower back can finally stop doing a job it was never meant to do.
