Discussion on Macklemore's Speech Controversy
The Macklemore thing is really crazy because if you ever...
L- let's play his actual speech.
Find his actual speech because i- people were saying that it's
anti-Semitic. It-
there's nothing about what he's saying that's anti-Semitic.
If you listen to the entirety of the speech, he is...
Uh, I'll, I'll, I'll play it before we comment on it
because I think
there's a real problem now with clips and narratives where people hear a piece
of something, and then they make a d- they, they have the, you know, a, "Oh, you
can't say that," or, "Oh, this- he's doing this," or, "Oh,
he's doing that." Like,
everyone's losing nuance. What he's doing is talking about
what, to most people, seems like a crime against
humanity. That's what most people look at it,
and that's how they
see it. And what he's saying is in no way...
And I don't like, I don't like that term Semitic either because,
like, the Palestinians, a lot of those Palestinians are Semites.
Yeah.
And a lot of those Palestinians are lit- truly descendants of people that probably
were Jewish at one point in time and converted to Islam.
Yeah.
This is not an anti-Semitic thing because a lot of the people that
live in Israel are Jews from, um,
Eastern Europe.
Mm-hmm.
Like, they're not even from that place.
