Improving Push-Up Technique
Here's the secrets to doing push-ups that he was likely looking at.
Watch what his shoulders do before he starts his push-up. Did you see it?
He was creating external rotation torque at the shoulders.
This is the same action that occurs at your shoulders
when you turn your hands out.
The only difference is your hands stay planted in the ground.
A lot of people that struggle with push-ups have all their pressure on the
inside
part of their hand, as the top graphic shows.
But when you create that external rotation torque at the
shoulder, you shift your
weight now to your entire hand, and this is a much more stable foundation
for your
push-up. So to get better at push-ups, start well first and make sure your
body weight is spread across your full hand.
