Discussion on Crime Rates in Memphis
Um, I, I, I, it's worth it-- We should always talk about where
we were two years ago, and it's worth talking about in, in twenty
twenty-four, Memphis had the highest rate of violent
crime per capita,
including some of the highest rates of murder, robbery, aggravated assault,
property crimes, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, in the entire
country, right here in Memphis, just two years ago.
And, and
the American people sent President Trump back to the White House, um,
for a lot of reasons. But one reason was because of what was happening
in places like Memphis, and, and they said to him that they wanted
a safer, a safer America. They wanted a safer community.
And, and one of the things that we're doing every single day in
Memphis is
delivering on that promise. And so we-- it's, it's what I do
every day. It's what, it's what the people that are on this, um,
that, that are sitting here do every day, which is working hard to, to keep--
to fulfill that promise and to, to make this country safe again.
And I think it's worth talking about the results. They speak for themselves.
Um, we started this, the Memphis Task Force last
September, so just over a year ago.
Uh, Director Serralta, I, I think I was in the room in
DC
when he was told that his
reward for being a great director of the Marshals Service and his
reward
for being in charge of making DC safe again
was that we were also s-- We didn't take away his jobs.
We just sent him to Memphis and said, "Now go make Memphis safe again
as well." So he, he, um, really has done a
phenomenal job, not only in Memphis and, but running the Marshals
Service and also, um, helping with, with DC as well.
