Discussion on the Name of Jesus
His name's not Jesus.
Oh.
Never has been Jesus. Someone gave him that name.
What is that, like, the English tran- like, translation or something?
Nope. Someone made up a name and gave it to him.
Years later, here we are saying Jesus-
Yeah
... when that's not even his name.
Huh.
So, like, your name's John, or is it-
Yeah
... Jonathan?
No, it's John.
John, period.
Yeah.
So, like, let's say, um, you grew up in Brooklyn, and everybody
got to call you Jackie.
Yeah.
You know, your nickname was Jackie.
Yeah.
So now everybody knows you as Jackie, and, "Yeah, yeah, it's old Jackie
Craig over there."
Yeah.
But, like,
it's really John.
Yeah.
It's not Jackie.
Yeah.
Now, nobody knows that because they don't know you very
well.
Yeah.
You know? And they could've known you for 20 years
and not know that your real name
was John.
True.
So my question to people that don't know his real name is always,
how well do you
know him?
Yeah.
Because if you read scripture, it says, "My children will know my name."
Yeah, yeah.
Well, what's his name?
Yeah.
And people say, "Jesus."
Yeah.
That's not his name. And then people say, "Well, it's just translated
Brad."
Yeah.
And they get all pissy.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's like Jackie is not a translation of John.
Yeah, exactly, exactly.
It's a different name. His name was Yehoshua, or Yehoshua.
Yeah.
Which if you translated that to today's English, it would be
Joshua.
Mm.
So his name was Joshua.
Mm.
Why do we call him Jesus? The commandment literally says,
"Don't make
my name useless."
Hmm.
So don't take my name in vain.
Yeah.
Vain means to make meaningless or useless.
Yeah, yeah.
So when you say Jesus, you're not using his name.
