Motor City Pride: Abdul on Trans Rights, Inclusion and Political Representation

Hey friends, Abdul here. I'm the Motor City Pride.

I'm here because rights are rights are rights are rights.

Regardless of how you use your rights, it's incumbent on all of us to show up and fight for rights.

This administration is trying to take away rights for all of us.

What do we need when it comes to being able to stand up and fight back?

Backups. Good, new, fresh, young politicians.

The way that we stand up to governments trying to oppress our fundamental human rights is by standing behind candidates like you who are really, you know, getting out there and doing the work and who we see as champions for our community.

Right now, especially for our trans siblings, it means having that sense of safety everywhere you go.

It means being present for those in need and who are most vulnerable in our community, and it really means a lot that we have people who stand up for their rights.

And I think it, it's an example of why people like you are so important.

People that show up and speak out for us in government, we need that.

Politics affects every part of our lives.

It affects our children's lives, and we need to be more inclusive.

And what are the most important issues in your life?

Um, affordability, basic human rights, trans rights.

I feel like a lot of us have a lot more in common than we think.

Amen. And I think, you know, together we're stronger.

More unity I think really goes a long ways.

Being able to be myself finally after all these years. Yeah.

Being able to buy a home and feel safe, or rent a place and not have to worry about being kicked out for who I am- Yeah ... and who I love, et cetera.

I hope that, um, that, that everybody here understands that, like, this America is big enough for everybody.

Shouldn't matter how you pray, who you love, how you identify, that this is a place for everybody.

So thank you for being here. Uh, thank you for your fight, and it's really nice to meet you.

And thank you for being a strong ally, and I'm looking forward to seeing you in the Senate. Thank you so much.
