Dentist's Oral Hygiene Routine: Flossing, Brushing and Fresh Breath

I'm a dentist, and I love

seeing my patients come back

with no cavities,

no inflammation, and fresh, healthy breath.

All these things

are possible with the proper oral hygiene routine,

so I'm going to review

those with you.

It is a team effort, so try your best.

That's all I ask, that you try your best.

Um, we're trying to make your

life easier, not harder.

So

let's begin.

Step number one is the flossing.

If you hate flossing,

I like to tell my teenager

patients, "You don't have to floss every tooth,

only the ones you wanna keep."

Yeah, that's a,

it's a joke. You know,

floss every tooth, or you'll lose them.

I like to use Coco floss.

This has a lot more threading than the

average floss,

but it's up to you what you use.

But you do have to use the right technique.

C shape below the gum line

on both sides. Secondly,

and this is important, water

flosser does not replace your string flossing.

Second step, soft

bristles. Harder bristles are not better,

okay? Another recommendation

is to spread the toothpaste evenly across

your teeth before you

brush. So get that all the way here,

all the way around your mouth.

Forty-five

degrees to the gum line,

small sweeping motions

across each tooth.

Avoid going side to side.

It's a very popular mistake.

It can cause gum recession over time.

Two spots I don't want you to miss,

behind your back molars and

behind your bottom front

teeth,

which is where a lot of calculus or hardened plaque can

accumulate. Your

salivary glands

are secreting there,

so it's easier for stuff to

build up. Okay.

Now, I still have

some toothpaste on my tongue,

so it's a great time for me to tongue

scrape and get the

crap off my tongue. I didn't

bring my tongue scraper from New

York.

I'm in Korea

right now. So you could use a metal

spoon.

Allow me to demonstrate.

How, how amazing is that?

This should be subscription-based

only, but

it's free for you guys.

The big takeaway

is that it not only makes

your mouth cleaner,

but

also helps your breath to be fresher.

And number four,

every night I take a tablet of this,

oral probiotic tablets.

Don't chew it.

You leave it in your mouth to dissolve.

I take one at night and one in the morning.

These can reduce what

are called volatile sulfur compounds,

which are

the primary cause of halitosis or bad breath.

What's important about this is that you use them consistently because it

takes time

for your microbiome to adapt.

If you have any questions,

let me know in the

comments. I'd be happy to help. Okay.

Adios.
