US Official Discusses Options on Maduro, Venezuela and Cartels
What is your message to Nicolas Maduro?
Well, it brings a whole bunch of new options
to the United States,
and he is indicted and wanted for his...
He's not a legitimately elected leader of Venezuela.
Everybody knows that.
In fact, he'll be lying to the previous administration
about that he would leave office.
He didn't.
He's involved in trafficking and is indicted,
is wanted for $50 million.
He knows all that.
We know all that.
Gives more tools to our department
to give options to the president
to ultimately say our hemisphere
will not be controlled by narco-terrorists.
It will not be controlled by cartels.
It will not be controlled by what illegitimate regimes
try to push toward the American people.
So it's just about options.
And we plan better than any organization in the world here.
We want to make sure the president has options
to include doing a whole lot,
to include doing the cartel mission
that we're doing there as well.
So nothing's off the table,
but nothing's automatically on the table either.
